01 Apr So Why the Whale?!
In 1497 John Cabot set sail from Bristol on the Matthew hoping to find Asia. He in fact found North America and as evidence of his voyage brought back several artefacts including THE JAWBONE OF A WHALE. Some say that the Clifton Pilot Gig Club are a new generation of pioneers, doing battle with the oceans as we seek glory on the waves. Thus, our whale emblem is a reminder to us all of Bristol’s adventurous past and inspires us all to work together to create a new “power beneath the waves”.
